“Junta de Castilla y León” has the conviction that a social consciousness in sustainable architecture is the key for improving the quality of life of citizens and, at the same time, it is an instrument for helping economic and social development.
Therefore, the regional administration supports the organization and execution of the first International Congress on Sustainable Architecture, that will be held 12th and 13th November 2009 in Valladolid and that will have the presence of worldwide renown experts such as Enric Ruiz-Geli, Niclas Svenningsen or Shigeru Ban, among others.
In these difficult times for all the society, especially in the construction industry, initiatives like the ones that will be presented in this Congress are necessary. It is a Congress born with the aim of achieving a critical reflection between nature and architecture.
“Feria de Valladolid” as organizator, the labour of the Architecture Associations of Castilla y León and the collaboration of private companies and public institutions, all of us involved in these aims, guarantee the interest and success of this Congress.
I make an invitation from “Consejería de Fomento” to take part in this International Congress on Sustainable Architecture to any architect, technical architect, engineer, businessmen, developer, promoter, constructor… with the aim that all the conclusions drawn through talks, forums and debates will let us keep on making progress in consolidating a sustainable use of resources and a better future for us all.
Antonio Silván Rodríguez, Consejero de
Fomento de la Junta de Castilla y León.
In November 2009, Feria de Valladolid will host the 1st International Congress on Sustainable Architecture - Valladolid 2009, which will analyse from different perspectives and scales, the actions taken from the public and private fields in order to achieve the sustainability of the building sector in the 21st century.

The congress has been organised to promote the awareness of the relationship between architecture and nature and the debate about the requirements to be asked to cities and architecture, as well as to find solutions that contribute to the global objective of sustainability, considering sustainable architecture as that whose strategic objective is to minimise the social, economic and environmental impact of building processes.
Finally, the aim of the congress is to suggest sustainable urban and architectural models with the lowest possible environmental impact by, first of all, researching proposals for zero CO2 emission cities and buildings and zero environmental impact as an essential objective for the near future.
